The City of Surprise is currently accepting applications for the newly formed Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission.
During the December 4 Regular City Council Meeting, Council moved to form this new commission to assist in the development and/or expansion of city programming related to veterans; people with special needs; and those in need of general human services and workforce development.
The former seven-member Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) has transitioned into the new larger commission. Four additional seats will be filled representing veterans, their family members or someone representing a veteran service organization.
As the terms for the current DAC members expire, new commissions will be sought.
All Board/Commission positions are voluntary.
Applications for the Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission are available for pickup immediately at the Surprise City Clerk’s Office, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Applications are also available online at www.surpriseaz.gov/boards.
Please submit applications to the City Clerk’s Office in person or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are always available for all boards and commissions and will be kept on file for future vacancies.
The goal is to have the new commission assembled to begin meeting in February 2019.
Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of the month in the City Hall Council Chambers at 6 p.m. All meetings, are open to the public, and will be televised on Surprise TV and online at www.surpriseaz.gov/surprisetv.
