Adaptive Intro to Cooking Class
It’s time to learn the basics of cooking and how to survive in the kitchen. This class teaches you how to gather ingredients, how to measure and the basics of creating simple dishes at home. From scrambled eggs to no bake treats this one is fun and delicious. Preparing, serving, and cleanup will be covered as well. This class is designed for individuals with disabilities to enjoy.
Ages: 7 and older

The ABC’s of Long Range Planning Class
In partnership with The Special Needs Project for Education and Advocacy, this FREE workshop is designed for parents or caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities. This class will answer many of the questions related to planning for the future. Some of the items that will be discussed are budget, legal documents, government benefits, guardianship, and much more.

Adaptive Arts and Crafts Class
This Adaptive Recreation Special Interest Class is designed for participants to work on increasing fine motor skills through entertaining activities such as art, crafts and various fun projects. The class will be designed by a licensed Occupational Therapist from TEAM 4 Kids Pediatric Therapy.
Ages: 8 and older

Adaptive Karate Class
Integrated Tang Soo Do Academy teaches students focus and discipline, self-awareness, confidence, integrity, self-motivation, self-defense and overall balance within oneself. Participants will learn basic Karate forms and stances, punches and kicks and attention and patient skills in a fun and safe environment. The master instructor has been studying martial arts over 42 years.

Adaptive Kids Fit N’ Fun Class
Do you want your child to move more and sit less? The Kid Fit n' Fun class will teach participants that physical activity can be FUN! Each week classes will be centered on a theme that will include fun exercises to encourage movement. This class is geared to encourage jumping, hopping, balancing, throwing, catching, and overall strengthening. Kid Fit n' Fun is designed by a licensed Physical Therapist from T.E.A.M. 4 Kids Pediatric Therapy that has experience with making movement exciting for kids! All participants must be able to walk independently or walk independently with the assistance of a device.

Adaptive Let’s Get Physical Class
For our 8 year old to mid teen kiddos that need to get up and move. This class focuses on full body awareness, conditioning, coordination, flexibility, and crossing midline through a variety of exercises and games. The environment is typically high energy, challenging, and fun with modifications available to accommodate varying ability levels. Let's Get Physical is designed by a licensed Physical Therapist from T.E.A. M. 4 Kids Pediatric Therapy. All participants must be able to walk independently or walk independently with the assistance of a device.

Adaptive Basketball Clinic
The Adaptive Basketball Clinic is designed for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. In conjunction with the City of Surprise, the Valley Vista Girls' Basketball team will be helping to run the clinic. The clinic will focus on increasing basketball skills such as, basic ball handling, defensive concepts, dribbling, shooting, and game knowledge for athletes who are 10 years and older.

Adaptive Tennis Clinic
USTA Pro Circuit Tennis Tournament is being hosted here in Surprise. As a special feature to the tournament, we are conducting an Adaptive Tennis Clinic for any participant with a disability who is 5 years and older. Play alongside pros that are in town competing in the tournament.

Adaptive Family Fall Fest
The Fall Fest event was created for individuals with disabilities and their families to enjoy. Costume contest, games, snacks, candy, prizes, and music are just some of the exciting activities that will take place at this seasonal party. So break out your costume and join the fun!

Adaptive Family Fishing Derby
In conjunction with the Arizona Game and Fish Department and volunteer assistance from the Sun City Grand Fishing Club, the City of Surprise is offering an Adaptive Recreation Fishing Derby where any individual with a developmental and/or physical disability can attend along with their family. This is a FREE event but registration is required. Equipment will be provided for the first 30 adaptive participants. Individuals needing extra assistance such as personal hygiene and feeding are responsible for making arrangements prior to the event.

Adaptive Winter Party and Tree Decorating Event
The Winter Party will consist of a tree decorating ceremony, music, dancing, choir performances, gifts for the athletes, special guest appearances, carnival games and refreshments. Bring your lunch and join the fun! Registration is FREE but required in advance to attend the event. In conjunction with the City of Surprise, Dysart School District’s Special Olympic athletes and teachers will also be donating their time by making ornaments and decorations in school to help decorate the Holiday Trees. All Surprise Adaptive Recreation participants are encouraged to attend the event. To register call Jennifer Corkin at 623.222.2245.

All Surprise residents with disabilities are welcome to attend this free event. Siblings who are 12 and under are welcome to join the event.

Adaptive Family Swim Party
This event is designed for individuals with disabilities and their families to enjoy. Community and Recreation Services will be hosting a family swim party with pizza, dessert, and fun at the Hollyhock Pool in Surprise. The event features a waterslide, splash area and extra lifeguards to ensure a safe fun event for all.
