Trash and Recycling
The City of Surprise offers same-day residential curbside garbage and recycling once a week. Each resident is provided with a 95-gallon trash receptacle and recycling receptacle. Visit My Surprise Address to find your neighborhood’s collection day. Bulk trash pickup is offered to residents whose regular sanitation service is provided by the city and not a private collection company. To schedule a bulk trash pick up, please call 623.222.1900.
Due to soaring operational recycling costs and plunging commodity prices for many recyclables the city will begin diverting recycle material to the landfill until cost-effective solutions are identified. During this time, residents are asked to continue placing clean and dry recycled items in the blue container and keep bagged trash in the black container. View additional details and FAQ’s.
Surprise residents can drop-off clean/dry acceptable recyclable materials at the Public Works Yard, 17274 N. Litchfield Road.
Acceptable materials are:
• Plastic bottles #1 & #2 (These may include: milk, soda, condiment, water, shampoo, detergent, etc.)
• Lids must be screwed on the bottle or completely removed; if lids are removed, do not recycle the lids
• Aluminum and tin cans
Materials will be accepted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 8 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m. To expedite the service, you are encouraged to pre-sort your items. View program details: https://bit.ly/37C65v9
