For special event permits applications and other minor requests, you may now utilize the Camino Portal. To make a submittal for building permit applications and all other related permits,, you first need to request a link to the City’s Dropbox folder. Staff will respond within one business day and send you a link to upload your completed application, related plans and documents for review.
If making a submission through the Camino portal, you will have immediate access to status updates. For all other applications, the applicant will receive an email response confirming initial receipt of the documents, advising they have been put in queue for detailed review and processing. Upon review, applicant will receive email confirming the application was accepted or rejected, along with next steps for either outcome. Contact Development Services if more than two business days have passed and the primary contact has not received notice of the application being accepted or rejected.
If your TUP/Special Event application was submitted through the Camino portal, you will receive status updates for all status changes or may confirm status via the Camino portal. There is not currently a portal to check all other permit status. The City communicates via email with the individual listed on the application as the primary contact. Please ensure your primary contact is frequently checking their email for correspondence from the City.
At the time of building permit application, you will be assessed administrative and plan review fees. When your permit is ready to be issued, you will receive a second invoice for the final permit fee. Building permits are not issued until all fees due to the City are paid in full.
The City’s payment processing system can take up to 2 business days to post a payment. The permit will be issued after payment for the final invoice has been posted.
The speed at which permits are processed depends entirely on the volume of work coming in to the City and the types of permit applications. Staff does their best to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. After a permit application is accepted by the City, the plans are reviewed by City Plans Examiners to ensure conformance with applicable codes. If there are items missing on the plans, or if changes need to be made to ensure conformance with codes, those comments are sent back to the primary contact in the form of an emailed letter, also called a “redline” or “comment” letter. Some projects are approved after one review, but more commonly, projects go through several rounds of review and redline comments before they are approved.
Inspections cannot currently be scheduled online. Inspections should be scheduled by calling (623) 222.3012. Inspections called in before 4 p.m. may be scheduled for the next business day (depending on staffing and workload volume), or a future date of your choosing. Inspections called in after 4 p.m. are scheduled two business days out at the earliest.
Due to the volume of work occurring in the City, and the fact that different inspections require different amounts of time on site, the City is unable to schedule inspections for specific times of day.
If the inspection is outdoors, you do not need to be present as long as the permit and approved plans are readily available onsite and the inspector has access to the area to be inspected (unlocked back gate, etc.). If the inspection needs to occur inside the home, a legal adult must be present to provide access to the inspector.
