Surprise City Code requires any person who practices, transacts or carries on any business within the municipal limits of the city to obtain a city business license. This requirement includes businesses within the municipal limits of Surprise and those who may be physically located outside of the municipal limits but enter the city to conduct business or perform services.
You can now apply on-line for a business license at https://primeweb.surpriseaz.gov/, obtain an application at https://www.surpriseaz.gov/3037, email or in person from the Cashier’s Office at Surprise City Hall.
Applications can be submitted online at https://primeweb.surpriseaz.gov/, turned in by email (firstname.lastname@example.org), mail, or in person at Surprise City Hall.
Liquor Licenses are handled jointly through the City Clerk’s Office and the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control.
Yard/garage sales, held on residential property for no more than a maximum of 32 hours or two times a calendar year, will not require a business license.
Upon approval applicants will be assessed the appropriate annual license fee.
The city license is only valid for the calendar year in which it was issued.
The licensing process can take up to fourteen business days from the date of submittal. Processing includes routing through multiple departments, and finally back to the Revenue Division. Notification of results will be emailed and/or mailed to the applicant.
You can now cancel your business license on-line at https://primeweb.surpriseaz.gov/ or by mailing written notice or emailing notice (email@example.com) to the city as soon as the sale is final. The business license is non-transferable between owners. New owners must apply for their own license and pay any applicable fees.

A renewal notice will be emailed to you in months prior to due date. Business License renewal fees are due on December 31st of the current year. Online business license renewal is available for most business types. If you are eligible for online renewal please log onto https://primeweb.surpriseaz.gov/ and enter the account # and pin # that is located on your Business License Renewal Notice.
