Fore! It's the 2021 "Itty Bitty Open"! Join us for the Itty Bitty Open on Saturday, January 16th! This FREE event will have four clinic times where juniors and their parents will learn the basic skills of golf taught by qualified PGA and LPGA professionals. After the clinics, the kids will then participate in fun-filled, non-competitive golf games and tournaments. Each golfer will receive a set of plastic golf clubs, balls, a bag, and a visor – participants are asked to leave their own clubs at home. An adult “caddie” must accompany each golfer.

Spring Youth Sports Registration Starts January 4thMark your calendar as registration for Spring Youth Sports Leagues, Camps, Esports, and Classes starts January 4th!
Spring Leagues include baseball, tee-ball, softball, and volleyball. League play starts in March.
Skill classes, lessons, and camps will include tennis, baseball, football, soccer, and softball. These programs will run from March-June. Esports Tournaments are also available on a monthly basis during this time.

Special Interest Class Registration starts January 4th; *NEW* Jr. Golf Classes!Check out our Special Interest Class catalog for classes starting in January! As always, our friends at Bling Tour and Steppin' Out have a full lineup for us, while some newer partners like Legend Acres Dog Training return along with Art With Me and Line Dancing! Other offerings include Pee-Wee Sports, Archery, Dog Training, and more!
We are also excited to announce a new Jr. Golf class! This class will teach your child the basics to the game of Golf. Dates are currently TBA!

*NEW* Surprise Angel's Gymnastics - January 8th Check out the *NEW* Surprise Angel's Gymnastics class starting on January 8! This class has levels for all ages from 3-17! These classes have smaller instructor-to-student ratios to allow for more training and attention to detail in all of the children in those classes.

Rocket League "Back to School" Esports Tournament - January 9thHead back to school with bragging rights! This 1-day tournament is for ages 7-17yr and will feature the game "Rocket League." Players can play on the gaming system of their choice from the comfort of their own home! Players can team up with a friend or get paired up with another player on the day of the tournament!
We decided to "continue playing" and teamed back up with our friends at Bravous Esports. When participating in an Esports Tournament, players will need a gaming system of their choice, copy of the game, a stable internet connection, and a Discord.com account.

Aquatics Center January Lap Swim and Aerobics Registration OpenLooking for a cool and refreshing way to burn off some of those holiday treats? The Surprise Aquatics Center offers Adult Lap Swim and both Deep Water and Shallow Water Aerobics (Ages 15+). - Adult Lap Swim: Participants are allowed to register for 1-hour per day, Monday through Thursday from 7-8 p.m. The cost is $2 for residents, $5 for non-residents.
- Deep Water Aerobics: Starting the week of January 4th, participants can register for any day, Monday through Thursday from 6:15-7 p.m.
- Shallow Water Aerobics: Starting the week of January 4th, participants can register for any day, Monday through Wednesday from 7:15-8 p.m.

Adaptive Rec Kicks into January with Kickball and More! What a great way to cap off 2020! We thank all of our participants who joined us for the alternative Winter Party we hosted this year. We hope you all had as much fun as we did!
Looking into 2021, starting in January we will be offering both Kickball and an Intro to Cooking Class:
- Adaptive Kickball: Starting January 7th, this league is designed to teach individuals the game of kickball. Ages 16+. The cost is $25 for residents, $35 for non-residents. Games will be played on Thursdays from 8-9 p.m. Please note: this league is designed to teach athletes with disabilities the sport of competitive kickball with modified rules.
- Buddy Kickball: Starting January 7th, this league is designed to teach individuals the game of kickball, such as kicking, throwing, and catching. Ages 4-11, or 12+. The cost is $25 for residents, $35 for non-residents. Games will be played on Thursdays from 6:45-7:45 p.m.
- Intro to Cooking Class: Starting January 4th, participants will have the chance to learn how to gather and measure ingredients, and create simple dishes at home. Ages 7+. The cost is $40 for residents, $50 for non-residents. Class runs on Mondays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Teen Programming Update Returning in January are some familiar, as well as new teen programs!
- Skateboarding Class: This 6-week class has options for both beginner and intermediate levels and will start on Saturday, January 9th at Dick McComb Skatepark.
- CPR, AED & First Aid Blended Learning: This class provides AED; CPR for adult, child, and infant; and First Aid certification. Blended certification incorporates 2.5 hours of web-based instruction and traditional, in-person skills testing.

Parks Update - Gaines ParksOur Parks team has been working with the Project Management team in overseeing the construction of the new Gaines Youth Ballfield. Current key milestones have included the installation of underground utilities such as electrical, water and sewer. We have also started putting up some fencing (see picture to the left)! Employee Shout-Out! Special Events Team: We want to give the Special Events Team a shout-out this month for their work on Surprise Party. With planning dating back months in advance, the Special Events Team took what was thrown at them in 2020 and made the best of the situation! With capped registrations in various activities, the Special Events team, with their organization and creativeness, still allowed us to celebrate the holiday season with you in a fun and safe manner!
