Surprise offers multiple new sports classes & clinics featuring new & returning instructors

The City of Surprise Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer new sports classes starting November 8, running through December 17, that include a wide variety of days and times, as well as both intermediate and beginner level options.

Baseball: We will be offering both Pitching/Catching & Hitting/Fielding options for kids ages 7-15. These classes will be led by returning instructor, Francisco Miller, who has over 10 years of experience coaching and playing baseball. New instructor, Steve Goucher, a former high school coach and scout for the Seattle Mariners, will assist some classes.

Softball: Softball Classes offered will include both beginner level and intermediate level options for Pitching/Catching, Hitting/Base Running, and Fielding for kids ages 7-15. Lindsey Schneider, a new instructor for us, who has over 15 years of experience coaching youth softball teams at both the recreational and club level will teach these classes.

Volleyball: We are excited to bring back instructor Jazz Dittrich, a former Division 1 volleyball player at the University of Minnesota and Pitt, as well as a collegiate coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She will be leading two classes; one for ages 8-12 and one for ages 13-17, focusing on a wide variety of fundamentals and some more advanced volleyball techniques.

Basketball: We will be offering weekend clinic options as well as weekday class options for basketball for kids ages 5-15. Our weekend clinics will focus on a singular aspect of the sport each week to allow players to develop the skills they need the most. Both intermediate and beginner options will be available and the clinics will be led by returning instructor Anthony Enriquez, a former collegiate player at Minot State as well as an assistant coach at Glendale Community College. Our weekday classes will offer a full comprehensive 6-week basketball experience, led by our returning instructor Shelby Chaney, a former collegiate player at Gannon University who transitioned into professional basketball with the Sheffield Sharks in the United Kingdom.
