Critical home rehabilitation funds available for eligible Surprise residents

The City of Surprise is currently accepting applications from income-eligible, owner-occupied property owners in Surprise in need of assistance for critical home repairs to ensure the home is healthy and safe to occupy. These programs may also be available to income-eligible homeowners with disabilities and/or seniors who need modifications to their residence to improve accessibility and safety.

The City, through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, offers two funding programs. Both have the same eligibility requirements and application.

  • Home Repair Grant (up to $3,500)
  • Housing Rehabilitation Deferred Loan (up to $20,000)

Programs may not be combined for a single project.

Eligible items may include: Roof repair, cooling and heating repair, plumbing issues, electrical problems, accessibility modifications and other health and safety issues.

Ineligible items include: Maintenance, cosmetic repairs, landscaping and pools.

Funding for this program is limited. Projects are selected on a first come, first served basis, with special consideration given to projects that address health and safety issues such as plumbing leaks, electrical problems, HVAC problems, accessibility, etc.

For current income limits and to begin the application process, please go to, or call Neighborhood Services at 623.222.1550.
