Valley Metro’s RideChoice program, which offers discounted transportation options, has been expanded to allow more access for Surprise residents. All veterans with proof of eligibility will now qualify, and the FY2021 Income Limit Category has been changed to Low (80%) Income Limits – this is up from Very Low (50%). Persons age 65 and over and people with disabilities still automatically qualify for this program.
This expansion has been implemented as a result of the City’s adoption of the Veterans, Disability & Human Services Commission Strategic Plan.
The following are acceptable forms of documentation for veterans:
- DD Form 214
- NGB Form 22
- Veteran’s Identification Card (VIC)
- Next Generation Uniformed Services Identification Card (USID)
- Veteran Health ID Card (VHIC)
Income-qualified general public must reside in Surprise, be 18 years or older by the date of application, and meet the income qualifications.
RideChoice provides transportation at a deeply discounted rate to better serve certified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) riders, seniors, veterans and income-qualified City of Surprise residents, delivering a standardized regional system for riders valley-wide. The RideChoice program offers transportation options that include wheelchair-accessible vehicle providers and the rideshare service Uber. The ability to book and receive service is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
ADA Certified residents may also apply for the Valley Metro Paratransit program for medical or work trips greater than seven miles. This complements regular, fixed-route bus services for individuals who do not have the functional ability to ride public transit buses.
Additional information about our two Valley Metro transportation service models is available at surpriseaz.gov/RideChoice.
