The city of Surprise is requesting public comment on the draft Property Maintenance Ordinance (PMO) that was presented to Council during last night’s Council Work Session.

The Property Maintenance Ordinance is the guiding document that establishes minimum standards for all property, residential and commercial building maintenance throughout the city. The goal of the PMO is to keep the city safe, healthy and blight-free.

The proposed PMO will replace the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) adopted by Council in 2007, and it will become part of the Surprise Municipal Code upon adoption.

Two virtual public meetings have been scheduled to encourage residents and business owners to learn more about the ordinance and ask questions. The public meetings are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13. Links to the virtual public meetings are available online at surpriseaz.gov/PMO. An in-person meeting will also be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in the Surprise City Hall Community Room, 16000 N Civic Center Plaza.

The public is invited to comment on the PMO during the 60-day comment period. Public comments will be accepted today, March 3, through Sunday, May 2, 2021, via an online comment box at surpriseaz.gov/PMO

A presentation and vote to adopt the PMO is tentatively scheduled for the second Regular City Council Meeting in June 15, 2021. If adopted, the ordinance will be effective July 15, 2021.
