The city of Surprise, Arizona is a hotbed for tourism events like MLB Spring Training, NCAA college baseball, USTA tennis, arts festivals, and amateur sports tournaments. In an effort to continue growing successful tourism opportunities, the city’s Sports and Tourism Department is accepting applications for tourism grant funds that can be used to host new events!
The city is looking to collaborate with one or multiple event professional organizations to develop new single or multi-day events to be held in Surprise. The department of Sports and Tourism is looking for signature events that will draw overnight visitors. The city will consider events that fit the city’s Tourism Five Year Strategic Plan, including ideas like:
- Sports Related Events/Tournaments
- Obstacle Course Challenges
- Performing Arts
- Heritage Festivals
- Arts Festivals
- Cultural Festivals
- Local Food Festivals
- Music Festivals
The tourism grant fund is provided through the city’s Tourism Fund, a special assistance fund generated by overnight stays in Surprise (Bed Tax Rates), dedicated to supporting tourism-based initiatives that bring visitors to the city.

All applicants should submit the initial statement of interest form and then follow the steps to complete the proposal process. Once the statement of interest is submitted, the Sports and Tourism staff will contact the applicant, and will be available to assist with the remaining application materials.
Applications for events that will take place in the next 12-18 months and are submitted by October 30, 2019 will be given first priority review.
