Teen tutoring service takes top prize at Surprise Youth Entrepreneurship Boot Camp

Youthful innovation was on display June 7 at Surprise City Hall in culmination of the AZ TechCelerator’s 6th Annual Surprise Youth Entrepreneurship Boot Camp.

Thirteen students from Paradise Honors, Willow Canyon and Valley Vista high schools and several home-schooled teens, worked in teams at the city’s business incubator to identify a community need and develop a product or service to address that need.

The finale of the weeklong camp was a marketing pitch before a panel of judges in the Surprise City Council Chambers. Designs included a new option for teen transportation, a teen based community jobs board and a peer tutoring service.

The winning team of this year’s Youth Entrepreneurship Boot Camp created and pitched a concept for a peer-to-peer tutoring service, TutorFLY, which connects students to peers who can assist them with achieving academic excellence. Congratulations to Dylan Tluczek and Bryan Main, both home-schooled, Prince Alino of Paradise Honors High School and Gabby Roberts of Valley Vista High School for this winning concept!

Since 2009, the AZ TechCelerator has fostered local start-ups, resulting in 16 businesses, over 200 jobs graduated, and a local Google project office.
