Surprise becoming hotbed for youth sports tourism as industry booms

The City of Surprise will soon see a convergence of baseball talent from across the country as Surprise Stadium and Recreation Campus prepares for a series of nationally recognized youth baseball tournaments this summer season.  

Each tournament will host local and regional talent showcasing their abilities on the diamond and participating in what is quickly mapping the City of Surprise as a platform for sports tourism on a regional and national level. These events are expected to generate over 1,500 room nights, with over 30,000 visitors resulting in an economic impact of over $1 million - sparking Surprise’s local economy with hotel stays, food, gas and many other local retail markets. 


Wilson Premier Championship West, June 6-10

Wilson Premier Baseball, established in 2016, is an elite baseball tournament organization operating in conjunction with the Wilson Baseball family. Wilson Premier events will focus on ultra elite competitive and exposure opportunities for the high school aged player. The Premier Championship West tournament will play host to over 85 teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington with many of the top prospects and college program coaches in attendance from Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Louisville, South Carolina, TCU, Florida, Arizona State and many more.  


Prep Baseball Report – Arizona State Games, June 13-16 & June 20-23

Prep Baseball Report will be hosting the inaugural PBRT Arizona State Games from June 13-16. The event will include two age divisions consisting of an upperclass age group (2022 graduates) and an underclass age group (2023 graduates) with over 30 teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Missouri and New Mexico.


USA Baseball U16 West National Championships, June 30-July 8

The USA Baseball National Team Championships are the primary identification events for players to be considered for the 15U National Team, 14U National Team Development Program (NTDP), 16U NTDP and 17U NTDP.

Through this event, USA Baseball will provide over 50 teams an opportunity to showcase their ability against teams from all across the country.  


Perfect Game - U14 & U16 WWBA West National Championships, July 12-18 & U15 & U17 WWBA West National Championships, July 19-25

Perfect Game is considered the elite amateur baseball scouting organization in existence, producing over 100 tournaments and showcases across the country each year. At Perfect Game events, players are performing with top level competition in front of college recruiters and professional scouts from all over the country. Since 2003, 8,420 Perfect Game alumni have been selected in the MLB First-Year Amateur Player Draft. West National Championships will welcome over 150 teams throughout the course of the two national events.
