Work to implement recommendations made by the Bullard Avenue Task Force continues as crews construct and begin to fill narrower medians between Greenway Road and Cholla Street.
Surprise Police will continue to be in the area to assist with traffic control. Drivers are reminded that the speed limit in the construction area is 25 miles per hour except in school zones where the speed limit decreases to 15 miles per hour.
- Concrete continues to be poured for the new medians, Waddell to Cholla; completed medians, Greenway to Waddell, are scheduled to be backfilled towards the latter part of the week.
- Travel lanes adjacent to the medians are still closed. Please be mindful of cyclists on the roadways; don’t compete, share the street! Drive Wise, Surprise!
- North and southbound left turn lanes at the Waddell and Cactus roads intersections will be closed intermittently.
Construction crews will be onsite Mondays – Fridays, 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.; overnight and Saturday hours may be added as needed to keep the project on schedule.

About the Bullard Avenue Improvement Project
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), in partnership with the city of Surprise, is currently constructing the Bullard Avenue Improvement Project, a multi-modal roadway (Greenway-Peoria) featuring two vehicle lanes in each direction, protected bike lanes, new traffic signals (Acoma and Sweetwater intersections) and raised, landscaped medians.
The project is scheduled to be complete in early 2019, weather permitting.
Per the ADOT contract, the contractor must have a majority of the project complete in early November 2018 (approximately 120 days from construction start, weather permitting). They will have an additional 45 days (early 2019) to finalize any landscape maintenance issues and/or other punch-list items that may occur. There should be minimal traffic disruptions in the area after early November 2018.
