The Surprise City Council adopted two new plans at their meeting Tuesday night that will guide the growth of arts and culture and tourism in the city.
The Arts & Culture Master Plan will help ensure that as our community and our arts and cultural opportunities grow, the growth will be focused, strategic and reflective of the values and vision of Surprise.
The plan offers direction on art locations and types; programs and policies; and includes ideas for expanding cultural facilities. It also contains a priority action plan that defines short-term, medium-term and long-term goals.
The plan is available online at www.surpriseaz.gov/artsmasterplan.
The Tourism Plan lays out a five-year strategy to increase awareness of Surprise tourism and enhance the quality of life for residents through increased tourism-based development and partnership opportunities, showcasing Surprise as an intentional tourist destination.
The plan consists of four focus areas: Events & Entertainment; Marketing; Partnership & Facility Development; and Funding.
Action items within those focus area include establishing an annual magnet event; attracting event partners and public-private partnership opportunities; creating new tourism marketing materials and a tourism website; and developing guidelines and criteria for use of tourism funds.
