Wellness Class: Importance of screening for prostate cancer

health with pulse

Health and wellness are important for a thriving community, and the City of Surprise is hosting a series of free wellness classes to help keep residents educated and informed on a variety of topics.

Coming up in the series:

Prostate Cancer and Your PSA, Why It Matters – April 5, 10-11:30 a.m.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men. Dr. Kumar, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, will discuss Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). It is a simple blood test that can help your doctor diagnose prostate cancer. Though PSAs have been tested for decades, recent research has questioned whether or not a PSA test is needed in all men. Dr. Kumar will discuss the importance of the PSA in relation to a man’s risk of prostate cancer, what it means, and what patients should consider when receiving this test.

The class will be held in the auditorium of the Surprise Public Safety Building, located at 14250 W. Statler Plaza.
