“Rose” and the Surprise Police provide update to MedReturn Program

The Surprise Police Department recognizes the dangers associated with prescription medication abuse and the link it has to illegal drug abuse. Rose, the Department’s therapy dog, has seen first-paw the negative impact that substance abuse can have on families and individuals.

In the one year that the program has been in existence citizens have turned in nearly 1600 lbs of medications; that’s nearly the weight of a Smart Car! That is 1600 lbs of medication that are off the streets and unable to fall into the hands of those that might abuse them.

Rose and the rest of the Surprise Police Department would like to thank the public for the continued success of the MedReturn program.

The MedReturn box is located in the lobby of the Surprise Police Department, at 14250 W. Statler Plaza; it is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note the following items cannot be deposited into the drug collection unit: needles, ointments, lotions, liquids, aerosol cans, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide, and thermometers.
