Surprise names new Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commissioners
Surprise, AZ (January 16, 2019) Surprise City Council approved the addition of five new members to represent veteran-interests on the new Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission during last night’s Regular City Council Meeting.
The new members, with term expirations through June 30, 2023, are: Karissa Perry; Shawna Daigle; Steffen Hanzel; and Tom Short.
These members will join the former Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) members who have transitioned to the expanded Commission: George Van de Langeryt; Bruce Hertzog; Kathryn Chandler; Dan Moore; Jacob Thomas; and Krista Watson.
Andrew Witzel was selected to fill the recently vacated seat on the former DAC; his term expiration on the new Commission is June 30, 2021.
Council formed the Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission to assist in the development and/or expansion of city programming related to veterans; people with special needs; and those in need of general human services and workforce development, during the December 4 Regular City Council Meeting.
The first Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of the month in the City Hall Council Chambers at 6 p.m. All meetings, are open to the public, and will be televised on Surprise TV and online at www.surpriseaz.gov/surprisetv.
