Local man pleads guilty to burglary and first degree murder
S?urprise, A?Z (May 5, 2017) Earlier today, Andrew Thomas Lauro, a 25 year old man from Goodyear, Arizona, signed a plea agreement and pled guilty to two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Burglary in the first degree.
Mr. Lauro was arrested on February 19, 2016, for his involvement in the death investigation of two women in Surprise, Arizona. During the incident, which occurred on February 9, 2016, Mrs. Barbara Leslie, a 70 year old resident of Sun City Grand in Surprise, and Mrs. Ruth Schwed, a 75 year old resident of Albuquerque, NM, were shot and killed in Mrs. Leslie’s home in Sun City Grand.
According to a representative from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Mr. Lauro will not be eligible for release until serving at least 35.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. Mr. Lauro will serve 10.5 years for one count of Burglary in the First Degree and will serve two concurrent life sentences for two counts of First Degree Murder.
Mr. Lauro’s co-defendant, Mr. Montez Lavell Wright III, a 24 year old man from Southfield, Michigan, remains in custody, awaiting trial, here in Arizona.
