Police arrest local woman for felony child abuse in Surprise
Surprise, AZ (November 3, 2016) On November 2, 2016, shortly after 12:30 pm, the Surprise Fire and Medical Department responded to a report of an injured child at a residence in the area of 14700 North 174th Avenue in Surprise. Upon arrival, the emergency responders found a 23 month old male child not breathing and immediately airlifted him to a local area hospital in critical condition.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the attending physician informed the emergency responders that the child, identified as Adam Aguilar III, had suffered a serious brain injury from head trauma and may not survive. The Surprise Police were summoned to the hospital and immediately launched an investigation into the cause of the injury.
During the course of the investigation, detectives spoke with several family members, including Lizet Moreno, the child’s care taker at the time of the incident. The investigators have made a determination that the child’s head injury was a direct result of Lizet’s actions yesterday. Lizet Moreno, a 36 year old woman from Surprise, was subsequently transported and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail for one count of Felony Child Abuse.
At this time, Adam remains on life support in critical condition. The men and women of the Surprise Police Department are keeping the injured child their thoughts and prayers and hope that he is able to fully recover from his injuries.
