Surprise Police preparing to celebrate National Police Week
Surprise, AZ (May 11, 2016) Sunday, May 15, 2016, is National Peace Officer Memorial Day and the Surprise Police are making their plans for National Police Week. While in office, President John F. Kennedy issued a proclamation that created a Peace Officers Memorial Day and established the week of the memorial as National Police Week.
National Police Week, which begins Sunday, May 15, 2016, will run through Saturday May 21, 2016. During the week, the Surprise Police will be joining other law enforcement agencies across the country as they recognize the service and sacrifice of those who have fallen in the line of duty.
One of the main events kicking off this year’s National Police Week will be the 28th Annual Candlelight Vigil. The vigil will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC.
