New program helps citizens dispose of their prescription meds in Surprise

Surprise, AZ (July 15, 2015) Today, DrugFreeAZKids.org and the Surprise Police Department partnered together to showcase the success of the recently installed MedReturn Drug Collection Unit.

The drug collection unit, currently being used to collect unwanted, unused, or expired medications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is installed in the lobby area of the police department, located at 14250 West Statler Plaza, in Surprise.

This morning, the community partners met at the police department and conducted an interview with ABC15. The interview was completed in order to spread the message about the recent success of the program. Since the grand opening on June 27, community members have safely deposited over 150 pounds of qualifying medications.

Funding for this community initiative was provided by AZMen, an initiative of the Arizona Anti Trafficking Network. The focus of this program is to provide a safe location for individuals to dispose of all their qualifying medications and ultimately reduce the likelihood of these medications falling into the hands of children and teens.

Remember, the death of one child due to an overdose is too many. So, please bring in all your qualifying medications and dispose of them properly and help do your part to end these senseless tragedies.
