Surprise Police to unveil permanent drug collection unit June 27

Surprise, AZ (June 24, 2015) This Saturday, June 27, the Surprise Police are hosting a free community event that includes the grand opening of a new MedReturn Drug Collection Unit.

The unit will be installed in the lobby of the Surprise Police Department and will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note the following items cannot be deposited into the drug collection unit: needles, ointments, lotions, liquids, aerosol cans, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide, and thermometers.

Funding for the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit was provided by AZMen, an initiative of the Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network. The focus of this program is to provide a safe location for individuals to dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications and ultimately reduce the likelihood of these medications falling into the hands of children and teens.

The grand opening of the collection unit will start at 1p.m. and will be followed by a Crime Prevention Fair. The Surprise Police invite the public to bring all qualifying medications to the event for disposal. The Crime Prevention Fair, scheduled from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., will take place in the Surprise Public Safety Auditorium, located at 14250 West Statler Plaza, in Surprise.
