Police collect a ringtail cat from a local home

Surprise, AZ (June 1, 2015) On Sunday, May 31, 2015, the Surprise Police responded to a wildlife call at a residence in the area of 163rd Avenue and Grand Avenue, in Surprise. The Surprise Police were notified by a resident that a cat with a long tail was found in the attic area of their home and requested assistance in removing the mammal.

Upon arrival, Animal Control Officer Mike Wilster was able to safely capture the cat without injury. The cat, later identified as a ringtail cat, was transported to the Arizona Humane Society. The ringtail cat will be evaluated by staff members and hopefully released back to the wild as soon as possible.

Interestingly, the ringtail cat, a nocturnal mammal, was named the State Mammal of Arizona in August, 1986.
