Surprise, AZ (November 3, 2014) The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) recently awarded the Surprise Police Department three grants totaling $46,725.
GOHS grants will be used for the costs associated with hosting and participating in intensive DUI patrols.
Money from the GOHS grants will be used to pay for the cost to send officers to training in the area of advanced collision investigations to help investigate serious and fatal traffic collisions within the City of Surprise.
Surprise Police will also use the grant funds to purchase additional Lidar equipment for officers. These speed measurement devices will be used by officers to keep the roadways safe from the dangers caused by speeding vehicles.
This training will enhance our ability to better understand the causes of such collisions and in turn, provide crucial information that will allow us to evaluate education and enforcement processes to make our streets safer for travelers.
