Surprise Police remind residents of city curfew
Surprise, Az. (May 12, 2014) As summer break quickly approaches, the Surprise Police Department is reminding residents of the city’s Curfew Ordinance for those under the age of 18.
The ordinance prohibits any person under the age of 18 to be in public places between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Sunday – Thursday); and Midnight to 5 a.m. (Friday and Saturday) unless accompanied by a legal guardian.
According to Police, much of the criminal activity that occurs between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., are either crimes committed by juveniles or juveniles become victims in many over-night crimes. To ensure the safety of minors, starting Friday, May 23, Surprise Police will be heavily enforcing the curfew.
Violation of this ordinance is a class 1 misdemeanor. Parents may be cited for their children being out after curfew if they allowed the juvenile to violate the ordinance.
