Surprise Police arrest suspect in early morning shooting
SURPRISE, AZ ( April 13, 2013 ) Surprise Police arrested a suspect Saturday, April 13, 2013 for a shooting that that occurred earlier that morning at an apartment complex in the area of 16600 North Reems Road. The shooting resulted in serious but non-life-threatening injuries for two men who were shot by the suspect during a party at one of the apartments.
Surprise Police were called to the apartment when a physical fight broke out just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning. Police heard the sound of gunshots as they arrived on scene and found one man with gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen. The victim was flown from the scene to the hospital where he is expected to recover from his injuries. An additional victim, who had also been shot by the suspect in the hand, sought care at a local hospital before speaking with police at the scene.
Witnesses of the shooting provided police with information that led officers to the suspect who had taken refuge inside the apartment that was hosting the party. After taking the suspect into custody, police located the pistol used by the suspect to shoot the two men. The suspect later admitted to police that he had shot at the men during a fight in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Rudy David Armendariz, age 22 of El Mirage, was arrested and booked into MCSO 4th Avenue Jail for two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and four counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons.
