Council appoints Bob Wingenroth as next City Manager
Surprise, AZ (October 5, 2021) At tonight’s Regular City Council Meeting, the Surprise City Council voted to appoint someone familiar to the community to serve as the next City Manager.
Bob Wingenroth will replace Michael Frazier, who previously announced plans to retire on January 7, 2022.
Wingenroth served as Surprise City Manager from June 2014 to November 2018. He began his service to Surprise in 2013 as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Assistant City Manager. He returns to Surprise having most recently served as the Principal Deputy Controller and Director of Auditing for the city of Los Angeles.
“Bob leads with a servant heart and helped to create a great culture for our staff and community,” said Mayor Skip Hall. “He was very successful as our City Manager, helping to finalize the Council’s vision of attracting Ottawa University to our city among other things; and we are pleased to welcome him back home.”
“It will be an honor to serve the wonderful Surprise community, as well as to serve the outstanding team of women and men that keep Surprise moving forward everyday,” said Wingenroth.
Prior to joining the Surprise team in 2013, Wingenroth served as the City Manager of Anaheim, CA from 2012-2013 and as the city’s CFO from 2010-2012. He also spent 28 years with the city of Phoenix, departing as the Finance Director.
Wingenroth will resume his service to Surprise December 13, 2021.
