City of Surprise wins two national video awards

Surprise, AZ (September 27, 2021) The city of Surprise Marketing & Communications Department earned first and second place wins in the National Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors’ (NATOA) Annual Government Programming Awards.

Surprise took first place in the category of “Best COVID-19 Update/Virtual Production” for our virtual MLK Day of Celebration and Service.

The video is a nearly hour-long production of the city’s annual MLK Day of Celebration and Service, which was pivoted from in-person to virtual due to COVID-19. It honors the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and features interviews, including civil rights leader and former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young, and a variety of musical performances.

The city took second place in the category of “Military Production” for our Veterans Reflection Circle video.

The three-minute video tells the impactful story of the city’s Veterans Reflection Circle – an outdoor memorial built in honor of late Surprise resident and combat wounded veteran Brian Mancini, who spent his life serving his country and helping other wounded veterans find healing.
