CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman Trent Renner called the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., at the Surprise
Aquatic Center located on 15831 N Bullard Ave Surprise Arizona 85374, on
Tuesday, February 24, 2004. Also
in attendance with Chairman Trent Renner were Vice-Chairman Wayne Turner, Board
Members; Cliff Elkins, Jack Hitchcock, Vanessa Goodrich. Board Member Lorraine Esman was absent.

Trent Renner moved to approve the
minutes of the January 27, 2004 meeting.
Wayne Turner seconded the motion.

CURRENT EVENTS REPORT:

Mark Coronado reported that
the second publication of the Recreation Times had been distributed to Surprise
Residents. He also reported that
approximately 1000 youth had already registered for the Cal Ripken Baseball/Softball
Program as of January 27th.
- Community Park Update
Mark Coronado reported on
the park construction and announced that a Grand Opening would be held in
- Original Townsite Pool Update
Mark reported that
construction for the original townsite pool is underway. The Council approved a bid for construction
of the pool to Ardivan Builders Inc. in an amount not to exceed $1,331,100.00.
- FY2004/05 Budget Overview
Mark Coronado overviewed the
proposed budget for FY 2004/05. He
reported on the capital projects, requested positions, new programs, division
and departmental budgets, and projected revenues for the FY 04/05.
REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS:
and Action to recommend the addition of Marley Park into the City’s Parks
A presentation was given by
the DMB and EDAW representatives regarding Marley Park. The group discussed the features of Marley
Park. The group also discussed the
School and the Community Facilities District.
Cliff Elkins moved to approve the addition of park acres into the City’s
Park Inventory. Vice Chairman Wayne
Turner seconded the motion. 4 yes
votes, 1 abstained (Vanessa Goodrich), 1 absent (Lorraine Esman).
and Action to recommend the addition of Vermonte Park into the City’s Park
It was decided that
the addition of Vermonte Park into the City’s Parks Inventory be tabled until
the next meeting.
Consideration and Action to recommend Facility Use to
the Thunderbird Artists for a Fine Art Show.
Presentation by Mark
Coronado regarding the Thunderbird Artists Fine Art Show tentatively scheduled
to be held at the Surprise Recreation Campus for February 2005. Vice Chairman Wayne Turner moved to
recommend approval for facility use for the Fine Art Show. Cliff Elkins seconded. 5 yes votes, 1 absent (Lorraine Esman).
Consideration and action to fill the vacancy on the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Trent Renner approved that
the vacancy on the Board be filled.
Staff will move forward to post the vacancy with the City Clerk’s

was determined that the next meeting would be held in April.
