Police encourage motorists to Drive Wise as the school year begins

Surprise, AZ (August 2, 2021) Another school year has begun! YOUR Surprise Police Department would like to share some basic back-to-school safety tips for drivers and for students.

This week, as school begins, school buses, young pedestrians and some young bicyclists will be making the early morning commute to school throughout Surprise. To ensure the children make it to their destination safely, please be on the lookout during your commute.

Expect additional traffic on the roadways and plan to add a few more minutes to your commute; take your time and arrive safely.

Starting August 2, 2021, officers from YOUR Surprise Police Department will be enhancing our enforcement efforts around local schools. The school zone enforcement will primarily be focused on the following issues:

  • Speeding in school zones
  • Speeding near crosswalks
  • Passing in school zones
  • Not stopping when people are in the crosswalks

Remember, we all share the streets, so please, Drive Wise, Surprise!
