Surprise Youth Justice Project

Surprise Youth Justice Program participants

Make a difference for young people in your community as a member of the Surprise Youth Justice Project (SYJP)!

The SYJP is comprised of high school students committed to increasing the availability of restorative justice opportunities for young people. In partnership with Maricopa County and Surprise City Court, the students participate in Teen Court – a diversion program for juvenile offenders, where cases are assessed by a collection of their peers and appropriate consequences are determined. These practices effectively resolve conflict and deter future offenses, while allowing offenders to take responsibility for their actions and maintain unencumbered access to opportunity
