The City of Surprise Youth Services Division is a hub of innovation for positive youth development. Through a dynamic set of programs and initiatives, youth services supports academic success, workforce development, community service and civic engagement of the city’s youth.

City Court Academy
Students shadow judges, attorneys, and other key court staff, perform essential tasks, participate in mock trials, and observe cases heard by the Arizona Supreme Court.

Early Civic Engagement Initiatives
Introduce your students to municipal government and civic engagement when you sign up to participate in a Surprise City Council meeting!

Surprise Literacy Challenge
This annual program engages the 4-6th graders of Surprise in various challenges that encourage them to enjoy literacy in new ways, and the top-reading classrooms earn prizes for their efforts!

Surprise Youth Council
The Surprise Youth Council (SYC) is a diverse group of middle and high school students who positively impact the community through youth-driven initiatives.

Surprise Youth Justice Project
In partnership with Maricopa County and Surprise City Court, the students participate in Teen Court – a diversion program for juvenile offenders, where cases are assessed by a collection of their peers and appropriate consequences are determined.

Youth Employment Program
This workforce development program provides paid City of Surprise jobs for local income-qualified students during the summer.
