Free water conservation and resources classroom presentations

Surprise offers free presentations to schools within its service area (see list below). Kindergarten through sixth grade teachers can request hands-on presentations covering water conservation and resource topics. These presentations intend to meet state standards while emphasizing the importance of conserving water and protecting our water sources. Additional presentations for junior and high school students may be available upon request. Contact conservewater@surpriseaz.gov for more information.

Activity books

Free water conservation and resource-themed activity books are available to educators in the Surprise water service area (homeschoolers included). To request booklets, send your name, school, grade that you teach, requested quantity, and contact information (include address if homeschooling) to conservewater@surpriseaz.gov, and we will provide books to you (while supplies last).

  1. Conserve Water Opens in new windowConserve Water: When water conservation is the name of the game, everyone wins. Kids learn important lessons about becoming smarter water users. (Suggested age range: 8-12 yrs.)
  2. Discover Ground WaterDiscover Ground Water & Springs: Beneath the land is a world of water for students to explore. This activity books gets to the bottom of it with interactive lessons about water flow principles, the importance of ground water, and its many uses. (Suggested age range: 8-12 yrs.)
  3. Discover the Colorado RiverDiscover the Colorado River: The resources of the mighty Colorado are shared well beyond the state that shares its name. Though its water is usually used up before it reaches the delta, students will find this booklet’s activities that span cultures, history, art hydrology, water management, conservation, and geography endlessly enthralling. (Suggested age range: 8-12 yrs.)
  4. Discover the Waters of Arizona Opens in new windowDiscover the Waters of Arizona: What makes Arizona’s water resources unique? Find out in this colorful, information-packed booklet. From rivers to wetlands to ground water and monsoons, students learn all about water and water management in this diverse state. (Suggested age range: 8-12 yrs.)
  5. Discovering DroughtDiscovering Drought: What exactly is a drought? Learn about the role of snow pack and groundwater; droughts around the world and throughout history; predicting and planning for drought; plant and animal adaptations; and dendrochronology.(Suggested age range: 8-12 yrs.)
  6. My Book About WaterMy Book About Water and How to Use It Wisely: This fun coloring activity book is a great way to teach youngsters about the importance of clean water and encourage them to turn off taps, save water, and use it wisely! (Suggested age range: 3-6 yrs.)
