Advanced Meter Infrastructure Replacement Project
To increase operational efficiency and the level of service provided to Surprise water customers, the city will be replacing approximately 16,000 residential, commercial and irrigation mechanical water meters with new automated meters. The impact to individual residences is minimal; however, water use will be shut off for approximately 15 minutes while the city’s contractor, Concord Utility Services, is performing the work.
Residents will not need to be at home while the meter replacement work is being performed; at no time will contractors need to enter your home.
Commercial customers will be contacted directly to schedule the meter installation during non-business hours or at an otherwise convenient time.
Residents will be notified via postcard mailers within 30 days of their meter installation date.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does someone need to enter my home to install my meter?
No. All work can be completed without entering your home. Concord Utility Services employees will not ask or need to enter your premises.
How long will the installation take?
The installation usually takes about 15 minutes, however if the meter box setting requires any additional work the installation time would be extended accordingly.
What hours will Concord Utility Service employees be working?
Between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However; actual meter replacements that require shutting off water service, work will not begin prior to 8:00 a.m.
Am I required to be at home during my meter replacement?
No. Prior to replacing your meter, the Concord Utility Services employee will knock on the door to let you know that they will be installing the new meter. You do not have to be home for the replacement to occur.
How will I identify that the installer is an employee of Concord Utility Services?
All Concord Utility Services installers wear distinctive safety orange shirts or jackets and carry Concord Utility Services badges. Their vehicles will display the name Concord Utility Services.

Will I be charged for the installation?
