The Risk Management Division investigates and evaluates all claims filed against the City of Surprise, under the direction of the City Attorney.
We are committed to efficiently and fairly settling claims owed, in cooperation with our insurance carrier (where applicable), while vigorously defending claims without merit to preserve the financial resources of our citizens.
The City of Surprise is self-insured for its Workers’ Compensation Program. The City is a member of the Arizona Municipal Risk Retention Pool (AMRRP), for the majority of other applicable deductible insurance policies.
The Risk Management Division aims to work with our various departments in preserving City assets and public service capabilities from loss, destruction, or damage. This effort is accomplished through both proactive safety measures and engineered controls as well as designed risk transfer techniques.
The Risk Management Division is currently guided by Senior Risk Manager, Brian Carmichael, and comprised of two additional claims professionals.
