STATUS: The city is currently engaged in efforts necessary to appropriately locate and acquire the 16 acre plot of land. It is anticipated that the land acquisition will be complete by June of 2020.
This project would allow the city to secure 16 acres of land for a future Fire Station, Police Sub Station, and Community Park. The purchase of 16 acres of land is an economic and public safety initiative to ensure the city has the capability to provide the highest level of service within the fastest growing region of the city. This proactive approach will allow the city to strategically place this multi-use space at the core of the residential and commercial area west of the Loop 303 south of Bell Road, while land remains available.
The city is currently working on an update to their Public Safety Master Plan. This plan has identified the need for an additional fire station and police substation in the southwestern region of the city to meet future needs. Moving ahead with this land purchase now will allow the city to strategically plan growth around this facility in a fiscally responsible manner.
The location for the future Police Department Substation/Fire Station and Park has not yet been determined. The process for identifying the 16 acre location will be inclusive, collaborative, and strategic.
The total approximate cost of the land purchase is $3 million.
This project meets several of the City Council’s Strategic Plan goals including the Economic Development Goal of investigating opportunities to attract family oriented entertainment venues by identifying lands for parks. It also meets the goal of enhancing our community by planning ahead with smart, controlled growth strategies and maintaining a safe community by planning for a future police substation and fire station.
