2015 National Citizen Survey Results

According to the 2015 National Citizens Survey, 90% of residents say they would recommend Surprise as a place to live and they enjoy living in a clean and safe community! Most important to our residents: Safety, Mobility and the Economy.

Here are just a few of the areas in which Surprise outperforms peer surveyed cities:

  • Overall appearance of the city (cleanliness)
  • Great place to retire
  • Street lighting & cleaning
  • Sidewalk maintenance
  • Overall built environment
  • Affordable quality housing
  • Public parking
  • Cost of living
The survey also revealed areas in which the city can improve:

  • Education (K-8)
  • Few people walk/bike instead of driving a vehicle to get around
  • Need more public transportation options
  • More local jobs
  • Fewer residents volunteered
1,400 surveys were mailed to randomly-selected households in Surprise. The response rate was 26%, considered average for this type of survey, with a margin of error of plus/minus 5%.

The City of Surprise appreciates the residents’ time in participating in the survey, which serves as the city’s service report card and assists in setting future priorities.
