Property Management/Commercial Rental Licensing Application

All rental property owners are reminded that they must register with the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office and the recorded legal class of the property must reflect a legal class of “4 -Residential Rental”. Forms are available at Failure to register a rental with the county could result in a $150.00 violation, per day.

Application Checklist:

  • Copy of the transaction privilege tax (TPT) license issued by Arizona Department of Revenue (to obtain one; submit an Arizona Joint Tax Application to the Arizona Department of Revenue).
  • List of properties managed, which are located in the City of Surprise, by address (section C of application).
  • If non-sole proprietor provide copy of the first page of the Articles of Organization filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission (or another state).
  • Licensing Eligibility Requirement Form (sole proprietor) along with copy of selected ID (front and back).
  • Copy of any applicable State-issued Professional Licenses
  • Complete pages 2, 3, 4, and 5 or 6 on the Business License Application.
  • Submit business license application to the City of Surprise by mail or in person.

Note: All owners of rental properties are required to have a transaction privilege tax (TPT) license if managed by a property management company.
