The Surprise Citizen Patrol was created in 1997 to help ensure a safe environment by providing quality customer service to the people who live and work in the City of Surprise. This volunteer based program is currently comprised of 62 highly-trained men and women who donate their time and skills in the furtherance of the Police Department Mission. Members of the Surprise Citizen Patrol wear uniforms and operate patrol vehicles while performing a wide variety of valuable services.
The Surprise Citizen Patrols responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Crime Scene Security
Radar Deployment/Speed Enforcement Programs
21 years of age
Have or obtain valid Arizona driver’s license
No felony convictions
All applicants will be required to pass a background investigation
Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per month
The Surprise Police Department offers two seasonal Citizen Patrol Academies each year. While in session, the academy meets for three hours, one day a week for six weeks.
