Street Light Improvement District (SLID) Petition

The city of Surprise is working with property owners in certain areas of the city to assure that street lights in those areas remain illuminated.
These are areas that do not currently have a Street Light Improvement District or SLID.

Traditionally, property owners in a neighborhood pay for the illumination of the streetlights through a local SLID. 50% plus 1 of the property owners in each location need to agree to form a SLID and sign a petition stating that fact. You will find a list of frequently asked questions is at the bottom of the page.

The city council directed the city to assist neighborhoods in forming a SLID at their July 23, 2009 meeting. The minutes are here.

If you are a property owner in any of the areas listed below, please click on the links to learn the approximate average cost of keeping the street lights illuminated per year, and a petition form that registers your support for a SLID. It is important that 50%, plus one of the property owners in this area submit a SLID petition immediately, or the streetlights will be de-energized. City Council extended the deadline to form the SLID to September 20, 2010.

Kingswood Parcel 16  Original Townsite Commercial North

At their meeting on February 25 and July 22, City Council agreed to continue to pay for the streetlights in the following areas after June 30, 2010. However, the city recommends that these areas work to create a SLID and is accepting signed petitions from property owners to do so.

(4 lights on Cotton Lane, not the neighborhood)
 Original Townsite Residential South
