As summer programming comes to an end; the Community and Recreation Services staff has turned its attention to Fall 2010 programming and we are very excited to announce a line-up with programs, activities and special events for the whole family. Here is a preview of what’s to come…
TEEN’S FRIDAY NIGHT 5TH QUARTER
September 3 - November 19
Following every Surprise high school home varsity football game, Sierra Montana Recreation Center will open up from the buzzer until 11:30 pm for Surprise teens, ages 13-18. Food, video games, dancing, movies and more will keep the adrenaline going long after the final buzzer.
2ND SUNDAYS IN THE PARK
Don’t miss the 2nd Sundays in the Surprise Community Park as themed entertainment will be performing. For times, dates and themes check the website at surpriseaz.gov/specialevents or see page 6.
FIESTA SURPRISE
September 18
This event will feature a Custom Car Show and Lowrider Bike Show, Mariachi’s and music playing throughout the stadium. The “Fiesta” will be from 5:00 - 10:00 pm and concessions will be open.
MOVIE NIGHT @ THE SURPRISE RECREATION CAMPUS
October 2
Bring your blankets and pillows, stretch out on the stadium grass and enjoy Monsters vs. Aliens for the fall FREE Family Movie at the Surprise Recreation Campus - Surprise Stadium. Gates will open at 6:30 pm, the movie will begin at 7:00 pm.
FAMILY CAMPOUT
October 16 - 17
Learn camping basics in the White Tank Mountains. Bring your tent and sleeping bags and enjoy camping in the desert with other Surprise families. The event will host a “camp dinner” on Saturday and “camp breakfast” and a hike on Sunday.
CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Professional Tennis is back in Arizona as Tennis Legends take center court at the Surprise Recreation Campus – Tennis and Racquet Complex for the 3rd Annual Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships, presented by Sanderson Volvo, October 20 - 24.
This years line up consists of: John McEnroe; Michael Chang, Jim Courier, Wayne Ferreira, Mark Philippoussis, Jimmy Arias, Aaron Krickstein, Mikael Pernfors. Champions will compete for $150,000 in the eight player round robin tournament which is an official tour stop on the Champions Series. This year you won’t want to miss Anna Kornikova competing in mixed doubles on Saturday, October 23 during both sessions.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
October / November
The Arizona Fall League will return to the City of Surprise for its sixth season at the Surprise Recreation Campus featuring our home team the Surprise Rafters. Arizona Fall League runs from October 13 - November 18 with the Rafters first home game at Surprise Stadium on October 13. Saturday, November 6 is the 5th Annual Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Showcase All Star Game.
SURPRISE PARTY and SURPRISE 50th ANNIVERSARY!
December 3 - 4
The Surprise Recreation Campus will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Surprise in conjunction with the 9th Annual Surprise Party on December 3rd and 4th. Families come celebrate the cities GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY consisiting of a celebration brunch and parade on December 4th. The Surprise Historical Society will have the City of Surprise. A History in Progress books available as well as Surprise memorabilia on hand.
The 9th Annual Surprise Party will be festive as always Friday nights activities will consist of a balloon glow, Dickens Carolers on stage, the Arizona Skyhawks Skydivers will drop in on the tree lighting ceremony, kids can ice skate and the night will conclude with fireworks. Saturday will be packed with live entertainment, live animals, elephant rides, interactive games, arts and crafts, a car show, food and much more!
