Bell Road Improvements
The Bell Road Reconstruction is complete!
The paving was finished ahead of the July 4th, 2010 holiday and last minute touchups and fiber installation work closed out the final two phases of the five-phase project a month early in late July.
Phase 1 of the $12 million 5-phase Bell Road Reconstruction- work was completed in 2007, rebuilding the street on westbound Bell, from Grand Avenue to Parkview Place.
Phases 2 and 3 were complete in 2008. The project included reconstruction of the westbound lanes of Bell from Parkview to just east of the Loop 303, using rubberized asphalt. The eastbound lanes of Bell from Parkview to Grand were also reconstructed using standard asphalt concrete. Various traffic signal, drainage and right/left turn lane improvements were also part of this work.
Using $2.93 million in federal stimulus money contractors, in Phases 4 and 5, reconstructed the three eastbound lanes of Bell from the Loop 303 to Parkview Place. East and westbound Bell from just west of the 303 to the Beardsley Canal was rehabilitated. Additional fiber was added associated with the Intelligent Transportation System; and manhole and water valve adjustments completed the process.
“Improving Bell Road and ensuring its longevity has been a long process and we want to thank all the businesses and residents for their patience over the years,” says Public Works Director Robert Beckley.
