JUDGE PRO TEMPORE
POSITION: Part-time temporary assignment – 2 year term
|
HOURLY: $58.65 per hour on an on-call basis

JOB ELEMENTS:
- Adjudicates misdemeanor, criminal traffic, civil traffic and city code violations.
- Presides over initial appearances, arraignments, pre-trial conferences, civil traffic hearings, probation violation hearings, restitution hearings, jury and non-jury trials, and sentencings.
- Reviews and grants search warrants.
- Conducts hearings on petitions for orders of protection, injunctions prohibiting harassment, and issues court orders.
- Reviews and signs criminal complaints.
- Researches, explains and applies laws, rules and regulations.
- Assists the Presiding City Judge in administering court policies, procedures, and practices.
- Participates in judicial education as required.
- Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited Law School and Arizona State Bar membership in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years.
Be free from any discipline by any State Bar or State Supreme Court for a period of ten years prior to appointment. For further information please see Surprise Municipal Code http://library.municode.com/index.aspx?clientId=14275 Sec. 30-3.
