KNOW HOW SCHOOL ZONES WORK

There are a number important things to remember about school zones.

• The speed limit is 15 mph
  
• The school zone speed limit is enforced from the first sign you see until you pass the crosswalk, then you may accelerate to the posted speed limit.
  
• Your front bumper may not pass another vehicle’s front bumper until you pass the crosswalk.
  
• You must stop for children crossing the street
  
  In addition to these legally enforceable rules, you should also be very aware of your surroundings when driving near a school zone.  Some children may dart out into traffic or in other ways attempt an unsafe crossing.  Stay alert!
