Coaches are needed for the city’s youth sports programs.  Surprise Youth Sports Staff is available to give our volunteer coaches the information and confidence they need to have a successful season. All coaches will be fingerprinted and must clear a background check.

Surprise Sundancers

The Surprise Sundancers, founded in 2002, are the official Spring Training volunteer organization of the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and the City of Surprise. The Sundancers are a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that currently consists of over 750 members! The Sundancers also provide volunteer services at the Surprise Recreation Campus and other City Special Events. As a non-profit volunteer organization, the Surprise Sundancers raise charitable donations and receive contributions to support greater Surprise/Northwest Valley youth-related programs and projects, including the award winning DreamCatcher Park.

Crisis Response Program
Crisis Response (CR) volunteers are trained and dispatched to house fires, drowning calls, domestic abuse calls, traffic accidents and other emergencies in which they may be able to help people. 

CR volunteers are eligible for benefits through the employee assistance program. The benefits include short term, confidential counseling for you and your family at no out-of-pocket cost. A referral program is also available via a 24-hour hotline.

The Citizen Patrol program is a volunteer-based program, comprised of highly-trained men and women who donate their time and skills to support the Surprise Police Department.

Citizen Patrol members wear uniforms and operate patrol vehicles while performing a wide variety of valuable services, including traffic control duties, parking and city code enforcement.

You can help paint the town yellow through the Public Works Department’s fire hydrant volunteer painting program.

Those interested in participating in future hydrant painting opportunities are asked to contact Theresa Moon with the city’s Public Works Department, at 623 222-7152, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday. All volunteers will be asked to read safety instructions and sign to acknowledge they have done so before being able to participate.

The Adopt-A-Street Program is designed to provide recognition to organizations, families and individuals who take pride in their area and go the extra distance to achieve clean public lands.

Community Clean Up

Several times a year, the City hosts a community clean-up day. To be notified of upcoming community clean up events, please contact Neighborhood Services at 623 222-1550. These events are also posted on the City Calendar along with instructions on how to participate.
