Welcome to Business Licensing

Business License Applications and Requirements

The business license program is responsible for issuing business licenses to all persons who conduct business in the City of Surprise. City of Surprise Municipal Code, Chapter 26, Licenses, Permits and Miscellaneous Business Regulations requires any person who practices, transacts or carries on any business within the municipal limits of the city to obtain a city business license. This requirement includes all owners of residential rental properties, and businesses within the municipal limits of Surprise, and those who may be physically located outside of the municipal limits but enter the city to conduct business or perform services.

Online Renewals

The City of Surprise now offers online business license renewal for most business types. If you are eligible for online renewal please log onto www.surpriseaz.gov/bizrenewal and enter the PIN that is located in the bottom right corner of your Business License Renewal Notice.

All rental property owners are reminded that they must register with the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office and the recorded legal class of the property must reflect a legal class of "4 -Residential Rental". Forms are available at www.maricopa.gov/assessor. Failure to register a rental with the county could result in a $150.00 violation, per day.

A portion of the business license fee will be required at the time of the application submittal in the amount of $35.00 (non-refundable). Make payment in cash or check only.
