Learn more about the Beat Teams

Consistently rated as one of the safest cities in the Southwest, the Surprise Police department works closely with the community.

The Beat Team Concept was developed to open up the lines of communication between citizens and Officers. By having Officers committed to a single beat for one year, it allows the Officer to become better acquainted with the citizens they serve.

By detecting potential problems early, the Patrol Officer is able to act as a deterrent to criminal activity and develop programs to allow for a better quality of living for all citizens within their Beat Team assignment.

The Department operates a three platoon shift assignment out of seven strategically located Fire Houses with 3 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Battalion Safety Officers (Captains), 21 Captains, 24 Engineers, and 53 Firefighters.

The Surprise Fire Department, along with 24 other valley cities, is dispatched through the Phoenix Regional Automatic Aid Dispatch System, a seamless emergency response tool which has the closest unit respond to an emergency regardless of the jurisdiction. This system features integrated technology that includes mobile computer terminals and automatic vehicle locators on every emergency apparatus. And all participants follow regional standardized operating and training procedures.
