Surprise launches Youth Employment Program
Grant-funded job program for income-eligible Surprise residents between the ages of 15 – 19.
Through the Tohono O’odham grant-funded Youth Employment Program (YEP), applicants must be available to work up to 30 hours a week, anywhere from nine to 11 weeks. The program will run during the applicants summer break. Chosen interns will earn $8.00 per hour, a stipend provided by the City of Surprise through the grant. Only 15 applicants will be selected to participate.

Cal Ripken Record Breaking Numbers
This year’s City of Surprise Cal Ripken Day at Surprise Stadium had record breaking numbers. On March 17th, over 2000 youth, ranging from 5-12 years old and 450 coaches participated in the parade of teams on the stadium field. With 164 teams, the City of Surprise Cal Ripken league is the largest league in the state of Arizona, and one of the largest in the nation. On an average, 32 games are played per night. This is leap from 7 years ago when an average of 32 games were played per week and there were only 277 kids comprising 19 teams.

The Surprise Police Department has been notified by Imagine Elementary/Middle School at Rosefield, 12050 N. Bullard Avenue, Surprise, that 29-year old convicted sex offender Neil Rodreick II, who is under arrest in Yavapai County on a number of charges surrounding his attempt to register as a 12-year-old in a charter school in Chino Valley, was for a period of time enrolled at Imagine Elementary/Middle School at Rosefield.
