“Buy Surprise-” shop local to support city services; local jobs
SURPRISE, AZ (November 4, 2009) The City of Surprise encourages residents to shop locally this holiday shopping season.
“In this economy it is more important than ever to keep tax dollars here at home,” says City Manager Randy Oliver. “When you shop within your community you are helping to pay for a variety of city services and you are supporting local jobs.”
The city’s annual “Be Surprised! Buy Surprise!” message reminds residents that buying locally keeps sales tax dollars in Surprise, where they help pay for vital services, such as police, fire and road repairs. Budget officials say the holiday shopping season is the most important time of the year for sales tax collections, a significant portion of the city budget.
“We have an eclectic mix of retailers in Surprise offering many choices to satisfy everyone’s shopping needs,” says Economic Development Director John Hagen.
